A community energy initiative · Slovakia
Building community-based energy solutions for a more resilient and sustainable future.
About the project
An energy community is a group of citizens, households, and local organisations who produce, share, and manage clean energy together — for the benefit of their region, not for profit.
In a time of rising energy costs and growing climate pressure, communities that work together become more resilient. Local generation keeps value local. Shared decisions keep priorities human.
Energy Hub Slovakia exists to make this model accessible across Slovakia — with the legal, technical and digital tools that members need to start and grow their own community.
Our principles
What we do
From rooftops to shared management, we cover what it takes to make local energy work for everyone.
We help members exchange surplus electricity with each other through fair, transparent rules — turning individual production into collective value.
A focus on solar generation suited to Slovak rooftops, farms and public buildings, with guidance from planning to operation.
Digital tools that give members real visibility into how energy is produced, consumed and shared — designed to be simple, not technical.
Workshops, guides and local events so that joining an energy community feels approachable for households, towns and SMEs alike.
Community benefits
Members benefit from locally produced electricity, reducing exposure to volatile market prices.
Energy generated nearby is consumed nearby — less loss, more value retained in the region.
Communities gain a meaningful say in where their power comes from and how it's priced.
More renewables on the grid, fewer fossil fuels burned, measurable CO₂ reductions year over year.
Neighbours, councils and small businesses build trust through a shared, practical project.
Local generation and storage make towns more robust against outages and price shocks.
How it works
The model is straightforward by design — it should feel as natural as joining a local cooperative.
Households, businesses and institutions become members under simple, transparent terms.
Solar and other renewables generate electricity that flows between members across the grid.
Savings, surplus and decisions are shared on rules agreed by the community itself.
Governance
Energy communities only work when members trust how decisions are made. Our governance is simple, accountable and rooted in European cooperative tradition.
One member, one vote
Decisions reflect people, not capital.
Transparent decision-making
Meeting minutes, financials and rules are open to all members.
Open membership
Anyone in the area who shares the values can join.
Project vision
We believe in a Slovakia where every region has its own energy community — connected, cooperative, and quietly transforming how the country produces and shares power. We are building this step by step, with patience and with people.
A model designed to be replicated town by town.
Local communities sharing knowledge, tools and outcomes.
Built for decades, not for quarterly results.
